A jeweler came to me with a special request. He wanted a large amethyst cabochon with a woman's name engraved on it and he wanted me to create a simple setting in Sterling silver to feature the stone. What do you think of how it came out?
The setting is both glued and set with prongs to make it secure and it is very light and discrete. The stone is a beautiful amethyst (which is pretty standard for me). Carving the name was a challenge. I do not speak Arabic and I don't know the Arabic letters so I had to copy what was drawn for me and hope I interpreted it right. When carving in stone, you only get 1 chance and 1 slip means you have to throw the entire thing away and start over.
